”She kept crying all night long, looking for her mother,” said Srijana's grandmother Bhavisara Budha. ”Why shouldn't a little child look for her mother? The sinners made her granddaughter an orphan.”

When 22-year-old Srijana (Gita) Budhamagar, who was found burnt to death on Saturday night in Koreanpur, Nepalgunj, reached her aunt's house, there was a large crowd of people on Monday. Srijana's three-year-old daughter was running around the same crowd. Sometimes she would run to the street and sometimes inside the house. According to relatives, the girl cried all night in search of her mother.
While the house was silent and filled with tears, Srijana's body has been kept at Bheri Hospital for a postmortem. The postmortem had not been done till late on Monday evening. 'She was crying all night looking for her mother,' said Srijana's grandmother Bhavisara Budha, 'Why shouldn't the little child look for her mother, sinners have made her granddaughter an orphan.' The grandmother was also speechless in the crowd. She would stare at everyone who came to the house, try to speak, but couldn't. According to
Bhavisara, Srijana was the only daughter in the house. She was separated from her mother at a young age. Her mother left her when she was two years old. Srijana's father doesn't listen, doesn't talk much. She can't even move one of her hands. Srijana's father lives with her mother. Srijana's parents and aunt's house are opposite each other. She grew up in her aunt's house from the age of two. Srijana studied until grade 12. However, after failing in one subject, she did not retake the exam. Soon after that, she got married of her own choice. However, her relationship with her husband did not last for many years. Even after the birth of her daughter, her husband did not come in contact. She was raising her daughter alone.
‘If I had listened to what I said, neither the marriage would have happened, nor would this situation have come to this point,’ said Aunt Goma Lama, ‘After he was separated from me, his relationship with Arif Dhapali grew, and after learning about the boy’s criminal activities, he burned and killed Sirjana.’
Sirjana’s family alleges that the family of Mohammad Arif Dhapali, who is said to be his lover, is involved in criminal activities.
According to the police, Sirjana and Arif had been ‘living together’ for 2 years. They had been living in a rented room in Nepalgunj-8, Ranital. However, their relationship was not cordial. As the quarrel between the two increased, Sirjana would sometimes go to the ward and sometimes to the police office. During the investigation, the police have taken Arif, his mother and sister into custody. The police have said that the court has extended their remand for 5 days for the investigation.
According to the police, Sirjana had also reached the young man’s house on the night of the incident. According to the 'location' shown by the phone, she reached the young man's house at 11:21 pm. The family alleges that Srijana was drugged and killed, then her body was burned and a black scarf was tied around her neck. The family claims that other suspicious activities were also seen at the scene.
According to the police, a police team immediately reached the scene after receiving information about a woman setting herself on fire on the road in Koreanpur at around 11:35 pm on Saturday. She was found severely burned. She was immediately rescued and taken to Bheri Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at 9:20 am on Sunday.
Although the initial investigation showed that she died of burns, the cause has not been revealed. The police have intensified the investigation, saying that the nature of the incident appears suspicious. On Chaitra 13, Srijana had reported to the police that she had been beaten up. Arif was arrested that same night. Arrested Arif was kept in the custody of the district police. Preliminary investigation revealed that Arif was released on Chaitra 14 at the request of Sirjana. However, the police said that Sirjana was found burnt the next day.
The family and relatives of the Sreej Naka have accused her lover of setting her on fire alive and throwing her on the road. The family is currently refusing to accept the body. They have taken a stand that they will not take the body until the culprit is brought to justice. The incident took place near the house of the accused Arif. Arif's house is located 50 meters from the place where Sirjana was found burnt. Arif's brother and father had absconded after the incident.
The relatives of the deceased and locals blocked the road in front of the district police on Monday, demanding the strictest punishment for the culprits. District Police Chief Superintendent of Police Angur GC said that a thorough investigation is underway into how the incident happened. “We are conducting an impartial investigation into the incident without any pressure,” he said. “The cause of death is not yet known. Everything will become clear once the postmortem report comes.”
