Nepali Congress leader and former Energy Minister Deepak Khadka was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police from Budhanilkantha on Sunday morning.
According to CIB Chief AIG Manoj KC, The Money Laundering Investigation Department had sent a letter to the Police Headquarters to investigate Khadka. Khadka was taken into custody for investigation on the basis of that.
Videos and photos of burnt notes found at the residences of Khadka, former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the vandalism and arson on 24 Bhadra were released.
This was confirmed by forensic laboratory tests.
After that, after the investigation initiated by the Money Laundering Investigation Department, Khadka was arrested after sending the file to the CIB for detailed review.
Khadka was embroiled in controversy when he was the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation while granting licenses and contracts for hydropower projects.
He was accused of cashing checks 'from the ministerial quarters and the ministry' to obtain production licenses and contracts for hydropower projects. But no investigation could be conducted against him. He was also involved in the embezzlement of land belonging to Nepal Scouts in Lainchaur.
