A petition has been filed demanding the immediate release of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were arrested for investigation in the Gen-G movement incident, as they were illegally detained.
Yashoda Lekhak has filed the petition on behalf of Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Radhika Shakya on behalf of Oli. The Supreme Court has stated that the hearing on the writ will be held on Monday.
The Incident Inquiry Commission had recommended filing a case against them, holding them responsible for the repression of the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23 and 24. Based on the report of the Inquiry Commission, the current government arrested the then Prime Minister and the then Home Minister on Saturday.
They were produced in court today. Lekhak was produced before the Kathmandu District Court by the police, while Oli, who is in the hospital, was produced virtually.
