The arrest of UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been given priority coverage by international news organizations. The news has been mainly focused on the Gen-G movement, brutal repression of protesters, human rights and the rule of law.  The British news organization ‘The Guardian’ has written a news story under the title ‘Former Prime Minister of Nepal arrested on charges of involvement in the repression of protesters’.  ‘The Guardian’ has published a news story stating that an investigation has been launched against Oli on charges of abusing state power to suppress the voice of citizens while in power.

Similarly, the American ‘CNN’ and the German ‘DW’ have linked the arrest of Oli and Lekhak to the Gen-G movement.  CNN has claimed that the state's repression of the movement and the rebellion of the youth have brought the leadership to justice. DW has also covered the clash between the state and the youth, saying, "Former Prime Minister Oli arrested on charges of suppressing protests."

International news organizations including BBC and Reuters have also written news stories linking Oli's arrest to the repression of the Gen-G movement. Qatar-based Al Jazeera has made Home Minister Sudan Gurung's comments on social media a news item. Al Jazeera has written, "Nepal's former Prime Minister Oli detained on charges of repression: New Home Minister says - this is the beginning of justice." Immediately after Oli and the writer were arrested, Minister Gurung wrote on the social media site Facebook, "This is not revenge against anyone, it is only the beginning of justice." Similarly, ‘Al Arabiya’ has also stated that the arrests were made in connection with the then government’s ‘role’ in suppressing the Gen-G movement.

Indian media outlets, which are closely interested in Nepal’s politics, have commented on the incident as a political transition and the emergence of a new generation.

‘The Hindustan Times’ newspaper has presented Nepal’s political developments in an interesting style. ‘The day after Walendra’s oath, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal was arrested on charges of his role in the Gen-G protest,’ the newspaper wrote. Similarly, ‘The Hindu’ has directly and clearly printed the seriousness of the incident by stating ‘Former Prime Minister Oli and former Home Minister Lekhak arrested in the murder case of Gen-G protestors’.

The media outlets of the northern neighbor China, on the other hand, have only made the incident news without any adjectives or analytical comments. Both the government news agency 'Xinhua' and the television 'CGTN' have used almost the same language to broadcast a brief news report titled 'Nepal's former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister arrested'. These news organizations have stated that the report of the inquiry commission has been implemented as soon as the new government was formed, without using words like 'repression'.

Bangladesh's English daily 'Daily Star' has covered the incident and presented an analytical picture of Oli's political life. Under the title 'The Rise and Fall of Nepal's Powerful Leader KP Sharma Oli', it has published a critical article on how Oli, who once ruled Nepal's politics alone, reached the margins of politics and was arrested after failing to address the youth movement. Similarly, the Japanese media 'The Japanese Times' has also presented a news report titled 'Nepal's former Prime Minister arrested on charges of repression'.
