Informing about the decision of the secretariat meeting held at the central office Chyasal this morning after the arrest of party chairman KP Sharma Oli, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said that the protest against the arrest will begin from today.
He has called the arrest of chairman Oli, who is also a former prime minister, and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak as vindictive. 'This arrest is against the rule of law. We demand their immediate release,' he said, 'UML has been disagreeing with and opposing the Karki Commission since the beginning. Our party believes that the commission's report is biased, vindictive and against the judicial principles of investigation.
The party has decided to protest legally and politically. Protests will be held at each district headquarters at 3 pm today by people's organizations, and a protest letter will be submitted to the Chief District Officer's Office along with a demonstration organized by the district party committee at 12 pm tomorrow. Gauri Bahadur Karki was arrested from Oli Gundu on Saturday morning as recommended by the Commission for action in the incident of repression of protesters in the Gen-G movement. Similarly, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been arrested by the police from Katunje.
The Commission had recommended a criminal investigation into the incident, saying that human losses had been caused by their negligent and careless activities and behavior.
