The government is to form a high-level investigation committee within a week to investigate the Bhadra 24 incident. The arrangement of the investigation committee is mentioned in item number 7 of the 100-point agenda approved by the first meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday.
The committee will be given a mandate to collect, analyze all the details related to the incident, identify the responsible parties and submit a report within a certain time limit. Further action will be taken based on the committee's recommendation.
The commission led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which was earlier formed to investigate the Bhadra 23 and 24 incidents, had recommended in its report that a separate mechanism be formed to investigate the Bhadra 24 incident. The Balendra Shah-led government has taken this decision based on the said recommendation.
The action plan to form the committee has been put forward amid criticism that the government has only initiated an investigation into the Bhadra 23 crackdown.
