It has been revealed that Home Minister Sudhan Gurung is preparing to arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were recommended for criminal action over the deaths in the Gen-G movement, on the same day he took oath.

For that, he had started discussions with Nepal Police Chief IGP Dan Bahadur Karki and Armed Police Chief Raju Aryal immediately after assuming charge at the ministry on Friday afternoon. However, a high-ranking security source who initially suggested that the security chiefs should move forward only after completing the legal process, told Kantipur.

However, Gurung had insisted on the immediate arrest, saying that a decision had been made to implement the recommendations of the high-level commission formed to investigate the incidents that took place on 23 and 24 Bhadra. Discussions on this matter continued among the security chiefs until midnight. Home Minister Gurung himself reached the Police Headquarters, Naxal, at night and started further discussions with high-ranking security officers.

He had called the IGP duo, Valley Police Chief AIG Ishwar Karki and Armed Police Force Operations Department Chief AIG Ganesh Thada to discuss the security challenges that could arise in arresting Oli and the writer. SSP Santosh Khadka of the Valley Crime Investigation Office also reached the police headquarters.

After that, both security agencies issued a circular to all their security personnel to be present in uniform from Saturday morning.

Law Ministry Secretary Parashwar Dhungana was also called for the discussion that night. After that, it was concluded that the arrest process would be carried out only after receiving a complaint. Accordingly, the police had taken the complaint from the Home Ministry and started the process of arresting Oli and the writer.

After suggesting legal options, the security chiefs had suggested that it would be appropriate to arrest him on Saturday morning considering the security challenges. To implement the same, the police had reached Oli's residence Gundu on Saturday morning. And, they have arrested him after issuing an arrest warrant.

Home Minister Lekhak has also been arrested. After the arrest, Home Minister Gurung said that justice has begun, saying that no one is above the law. Even when the government was formed under the leadership of Sushila Karki, he had pressured Oli and Lekhak to be arrested. He had even reached the police station when the complaint was filed. However, the arrest process was stopped after the then security chiefs suggested that restrained steps be taken.
