Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has left the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday after completing his 191-day tenure.
He left the post amid preparations for the formation of a new government tomorrow, as newly elected lawmakers took the oath of office and secrecy today. Addressing a special farewell ceremony organized at the ministry, Minister Aryal recalled that he assumed responsibility in an unusual and challenging situation after the Gen-G people's movement. He said that the main achievements during his tenure were the normalization of peace and security, strengthening good governance, and holding historic elections in a clean, fair, and fear-free environment.
'Amidst doubts about whether the elections would be held or not, we conducted bloodless elections on time through administrative coordination and security preparations,' Minister Aryal said. 'This has put the constitution on the right track and all the credit for this goes to the collective efforts of ordinary citizens, security personnel, and employees.'
He has handed over the main works done during his tenure as the institutional records of the ministry. On the occasion, he informed that 42 good governance warriors and 3 policemen of the Gen-G movement had been declared martyrs, the injured had been classified and provided with livelihood allowances, and 465 government offices damaged in the movement had been reconstructed and services resumed.
At the ceremony, Home Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha praised Minister Aryal for his work style, saying that the ministry had succeeded in formulating and amending more than 2 dozen laws in a short period of time under his leadership and had played an important role in raising the morale of the security forces.
Minister Aryal was appointed Home Minister on Bhadra 30, 2082.
