More than 4 lakh eye patients have been treated free of cost in a year. 454,942 eye patients have been treated free of cost through 28 eye hospitals, 226 eye treatment centers and various external programs affiliated with the Nepal Netrajyoti Association.
Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, Executive Director of the Association, informed that the association has provided free treatment with the support of the Government of Nepal and various national and international development partner organizations and the internal resources of the hospital. According to him, in 2025, 3378,042 eye patients have been examined through the association's network and 266,401 surgeries have been performed.
'In 2025, 25,565 free surgeries have been performed through the association's eye hospitals, treatment centers and various external programs,' Mishra said.
According to Bharat Bahadur Chand, general secretary of the association, citizens of neighboring countries such as India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan come to Nepal for eye treatment due to the services provided by the hospitals under the association. He said that in 2025 alone, 911,980 citizens of other countries received eye treatment through the association's network. 'Out of that, 153,086 patients have undergone surgery. Most of them are Indian citizens,' he said.
He said that due to the high-quality eye treatment services available in Nepal, the number of foreign citizens coming to Nepal for treatment is continuously increasing.
Association President Prof. Dr. Chejraj Pant said that despite much development in the field of eye treatment in Nepal, many Nepalis are still deprived of treatment due to lack of public awareness regarding eye treatment. According to him, a survey conducted in 2021 covering all 7 provinces of Nepal The RAAB survey also showed that most citizens are deprived of eye treatment services due to lack of public awareness regarding eye treatment.
