The construction of the Vishwa Shanti Dham, which began 11 years ago in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, has moved forward. The construction of the Dham, which was started by Buddhist monk Shyalpa Tenzing Rinpoche at a cost of over 5 billion, was completely stopped in 2020 due to land disputes and Corona.
A four-story building with a height of 44 meters in the shape of a lotus flower is to be constructed. The first floor of the building has been sloped. Lumbini Development Fund Vice-Chairman Dr. Lharkyal Lama, Dharmaguru Rinpoche and others started the slope of the first floor on Sunday.
The government has provided 66 ropanis of land for the construction of Vishwa Shanti Dham. Dharmaguru Rinpoche, who will complete the construction of the Dham, said that donations are being collected at the rate of one rupee per person in Nepal and one dollar and one pound per person abroad. ‘We will collect 5 billion from all over the world and build the Dham,’ he said, ‘I am confident that the work that was stopped due to various problems will now move forward continuously.’
He said that peace festivals and musical programs can also be held in various countries including Nepal to raise support for the construction of the World Peace Dham. He also said that since the peace that people around the world are looking for can be found in Lumbini, people from all over the world will also help in the construction of the World Peace Dham and that is why the work of building the World Peace Dham has been started.
‘The World Peace Dham will be an open platform where people of every race, color and religion can come together and spread the message of peace around the world and work for human welfare and well-being,’ he said. ‘The World Peace Dham will inspire citizens around the world to embark on the path of peace to address the growing war, climate change and mental health worldwide.’
The construction of the World Peace Dham will promote not only the Lumbini region but also Nepal around the world and will make a significant contribution to the local economy, said Dharmaguru Rimpoche. Vice-Chairman of the Lumbini Development Fund Dr. Lyarkyal Lama said that the World Peace Dham to be built will help internationalize Lumbini. He said that this project will become a symbol of peace not only for Lumbini but also for the world.
The Dham to be built near Gate No. 8 of Lumbini will have an area of 3,400 square meters on each floor and will accommodate 1,500 people.
