The weather across the country has been affected by the influence of a western low-pressure system and local winds. Winds, thunderstorms, rain and snowfall have been reported in various parts of the country since Friday morning.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecasting Division, most of the hilly and mountainous areas including Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are cloudy. The rest of the country is generally cloudy. Similarly, moderate rain and snowfall are also occurring in some places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the division has stated.

Due to adverse weather, domestic and international flights from Tribhuvan International Airport were widely affected on Friday. According to airport spokesperson Satish Kumar Basnet, many flights were returned or diverted without landing at their destinations, especially on routes coming to Kathmandu, after a risky cloud system was activated.

Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari said that thunderclouds formed very high on Friday. 'On Friday, thunderclouds were seen forming up to 16 kilometers in the sky. Therefore, it was seen that the clouds formed in a way that affected domestic and international flights. That is why the unstable atmosphere and hail also fell,' the official said.

Clouds covered the sky, and cities including Butwal and Kathmandu were dark even during the day. Similarly, in some places, the wind has blown off the roofs of houses. The roof of a school has been blown off in Raikote, east of Nawalparasi.

Meteorologist Adhikari said that the wind and rain occurred when a western low-pressure system mixed with the local air. He said, 'In other seasons except during the monsoon, the wind blows from the west in the northern hemisphere. Only during the monsoon does the wind blow in the lower atmosphere. Now the low-pressure system that causes rain in the western air has been active. Since the temperature has increased, there is a local wind. When the western low-pressure system also mixed with the local air, a slightly greater effect has been seen.'

Meteorologist Adhikari said that the low-pressure system is of a large type and has affected all of Nepal. According to the division, winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour were blowing in Udayapur on Friday afternoon.

Meteorologist Adhikari also said that such winds are normal during the pre-monsoon period. On Friday afternoon, there was rain with gusty winds in some places in Lumbini, Bagmati, Madhesh and Koshi. Similarly, strong winds were blowing in places including Jomsom and Lumle. He informed that although the possibility of rain remained, the wind would decrease on Saturday.

'There is a possibility of heavy rain in some places in Koshi, Madhesh and Lumbini on Saturday night. There is a possibility of hail in some places. There is a possibility of hail, thunder and lightning and heavy rain at night. There may be heavy rain in the lower parts of Koshi, Madhesh and Lumbini,' he said. The meteorologist also said that the possibility of heavy rain is low on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, there is a possibility of moderate rain/snowfall with thunder/lightning/hail/wind in many places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in some places in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.' It will be cloudy throughout the country on Saturday night as well. There is a possibility of light rain/snowfall with thunder/lightning in a few places in the mountainous areas of the rest of the provinces including Koshi Province and one or two places in the remaining mountainous areas.

On Sunday, it will be generally cloudy in the mountainous and mountainous areas of the country and partially cloudy in the Terai region. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in some places on Sunday as well.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged caution, saying that there is a risk of trees falling on the roadside, electricity and telephone poles falling, power lines breaking, and roofs made of zinc sheets being blown away due to the windstorm.

Meteorologist Adhikari said that the weather will improve from Saturday night as the westerly wind system will decrease. He informed that partial effects may be seen in some places due to the pre-monsoon and local winds.
