Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that the election was possible due to the Commission's determination that the election must be held.
He said this while addressing the certificate distribution program for MPs elected under the proportional electoral system organized by the Commission at the Central Office, Bahadur Bhawan today. He recalled that on the day before the election, on Falgun 20, he faced the question of whether the election would still be held.
'There was uncertainty about whether the election would be held amid demands such as Nepalis living abroad should be allowed to vote, those living outside the areas where the voter list is registered should be allowed to vote, about one million young voters were added by collecting the voter list through the ordinance, and young voters also voted enthusiastically this time,' he said.
The Commission also stated that no one had to be taken strict action for violating the election code of conduct.
He demanded that an election law be made from the upcoming session of Parliament to address the demands of the newly elected MPs to change the election system. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari also drew the attention of the newly elected MPs to the fact that the election law drafted by the Commission two and a half years ago is pending in the Ministry of Home Affairs, so they should work to pass it in the upcoming session of the parliament.
He also suggested that the citizens should work in a way that does not betray that trust as the citizens have high expectations from the newly elected MPs.
57 MPs have been elected from the National Independent Party (NISP) in the proportional representation election. Similarly, the Commission had already announced on Monday, Chaitra 20 that 20 MPs have been elected from the Congress, 16 from the UML, 9 from the NCP, 4/4 from the Shram Sanskriti Party and 4/4 from the RPP.
In the first-past-the-post electoral system, 125 MPs have been elected from the RSP, 18 from the Congress, 9 from the UML, 8 from the NCP, 3 from the Shram Sanskriti Party, 1/1 from the RPP and 1/1 from the independent.
