District Police Chief DSP Him Bahadur Khatri said that the accused was arrested on Falgun 27 after a complaint was filed that the girl was raped and made pregnant when she came home on Magh 13. ‘It is understood that he raped her for money when he came home with his daughter,’ he said. ‘The birth certificate mentions the girl’s age as 10 years.’ However, Khatri said that her actual age appears to be 13/14 years. According to him, the girl’s father married for the second time and went to Bangalore, India. After that, her mother also married for the second time. The girl has been living with her grandmother at home.
The accused’s daughter and the victim used to visit each other’s houses as they studied together. DSP Khatri said that the girl had told the police that after raping her, the perpetrator had threatened to kill someone. The girl mentioned in her statement that the accused had given her Rs 5 for the first time, Rs 5 for the second time and Rs 200 for the third time. Investigating officer Police Inspector Ganesh Gyawali said that it appears that the girl was raped. 'The accused has also confessed,' he added, 'it seems that he took advantage of the girl's vulnerable condition.'
The girl's aunt said that during questioning in Falgun, she was raped after she missed her period. After that, the police deployed from the Area Police Office, Raskot, arrested the accused. A complaint was filed on Falgun 28.
The accused, who was arrested and kept in the custody of the district police, has been remanded for 12 days for investigation. The girl, who was kept under the protection of the safe house in Manma, is now being kept at the One-Stop Crisis Management Center (OCMC) of the district hospital.
Police said that she has been kept at the OCMC for necessary treatment, counseling and legal assistance. OCMC Senior Assistant and Councilor Durga Shahi said that the girl is one and a half months pregnant.
