Locals have taken out a peaceful rally demanding that the perpetrators of the rape and murder of Inisha BK of Surkhet be brought to justice and given the maximum punishment.

The rally was organized to put pressure on the government to conduct a fair investigation into the incident and take action against the culprits as soon as possible.  The rally, organized under the coordination of Sanjeev Bishwakarma, started in front of the Chandrapur Municipality office and marched to the Chapur Triangular Chowk.

The participants in the rally carried placards with slogans like ‘How long will the government rape?’, ‘Hang the rapist’, ‘Justice for Inisha’, ‘Protect women’s rights’ and ‘Stop violence against women’.

Speaking at a corner meeting organized at Main Chowk after the rally, coordinator Bishwakarma mentioned that there have been many examples of victims not getting justice in such incidents in Nepal before. He said that the rally was organized to create pressure from the citizen level with the aim of not allowing the culprits to escape in this incident as well.

‘Delayed justice is the same as injustice,’ he said, ‘Therefore, a fair investigation of the incident should be conducted and the culprits should be taken to court quickly and strictly.’ Bishwakarma said that women are not victims of rape because they are Dalits, but because they come from the Dalit community, there may be suspicions in society that the justice process will be delayed or the incident will be covered up, and the state should be sensitive to that as well.
