Although flights to destinations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are gradually becoming easier, regular flights to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait have not yet fully resumed.

Some flights to the Gulf region were affected after the military attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel.

5,680 passengers have flown to the Gulf country, which is home to a large number of labor migrants, in the last eight days. These passengers are mainly passengers on flights from Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE via Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu.

According to the airport, 3,652 passengers arrived in Nepal on 43 two-way flights operated by Air Arabia, Fly Dubai and Himalaya Airlines from Falgun 20 to 27, while 2,28 passengers departed for the UAE.

According to data released by Kathmandu Airport on Wednesday, passenger traffic between Nepal and major Gulf destinations has been stable in the last one week. Cargo has also been transported during this period. According to the airport, 832 kilograms of cargo have entered Nepal and 6,921 kilograms of cargo have been exported.

Most of the flights on the Gulf route are operated by Fly Dubai, Air Arabia and Himalaya Airlines. According to the airport, these flights, which were scheduled as per the regular schedule, provided priority service to passengers stranded in both countries.

Gulf destinations are considered very important due to foreign employment, business travel and family visits from Nepal. However, after the attack in Iran on Falgun 16, some regular flights to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have not yet been operational.

Air connectivity between Nepal and the Gulf region is considered very important for labor migration. A large number of Nepali workers are working in Gulf countries including the United Arab Emirates.

Currently, around 90 international flights are operated daily at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. The airport has stated that under normal circumstances, there are about 26 two-way flights daily from the Gulf countries alone.

After nine Gulf countries, including Qatar, suspended civilian flights in their skies after the airstrikes, two wide-body planes of Qatar Airways were grounded in Kathmandu after Falgun 16. Qatar sent a plane carrying 300 passengers on one of them, without sending it to Qatar, directly from Kathmandu to London on Monday.

Currently, Qatar has opened flights to a certain number of countries. However, the date of regular flights in Nepal has not been made public yet. Similarly, Nepal Airlines Corporation and Himal Airlines have also opened flights to Dubai for passengers stranded by war-related insurance. However, airline officials have said that it will take more time to become regular.
