Kathmandu: Congress President Gagan Thapa is facing a risk. In Sarlahi 4, Thapa is 4,431 votes behind Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidate Amresh Singh. Singh got 11,383 votes while Thapa got 6,952 votes.

However, not even half of the votes have been counted yet. Out of 121,120 voters, 77,931 votes were cast in this constituency.

Thapa, who came to power after replacing his old leader at a special general convention, has been dealt a major blow by the election results.

Despite changing the party's policy and leadership, voters did not seem to trust the Congress in the elections. The Congress has so far won in 5 constituencies and is leading in 10 constituencies.

Even though the elections were held under his own leadership, Thapa has been put on the defensive due to the shameful defeat of the Congress. Leaders loyal to former President Sher Bahadur Deuba have started raising questions about the appropriateness of changing the leadership by holding a special general convention on the eve of the election.

Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, on the other hand, had released a video message on Friday targeting the questions raised by the leaders loyal to the former President. He has responded that the result of the long-standing power-oriented character and the failure to change as per the expectations of the common citizen is being seen this time.

He has said that the leadership has increased disappointment among the citizens by ignoring the numbers obtained by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Dharan and Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan Cities in the past local level elections and in the subsequent parliamentary elections, trying to become power-oriented only by ignoring the numbers. He believes that this disappointment has led to Genji's anger.

After the special general convention changed the policy and leadership, the Congress had decided to appoint Thapa as the future Prime Minister and entered the election.
