After voting in Kathmandu on Thursday, senior leader of the National Independent Party and candidate for Jhapa-5, Balendra Shah, boarded a helicopter to go to his constituency. But when he returned midway without landing in Jhapa, the question arose as to why he returned.

Balendra's chief aide Kumar Ben told Kantipur that he boarded the helicopter with permission from the Election Commission on Wednesday and that the reason for his return was a security risk.

Earlier, in a news report published by Ekantipur, it was reported that permission was not taken for the use of the helicopter, based on the statement of Acting Chief Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari. Bhandari had spoken to Kantipur on the telephone at 11:40 am and said, 'Permission was not taken.'

When Bhandari was later contacted on the same matter, he said, 'I did not know. I have just taken it.'

The helicopter with the call sign 9N-AOB of Heli Everest, which took off from Kathmandu at around 9:11 am on Thursday, departed for Jhapa.
