The Supreme Court has ordered the appearance of medical practitioner Durga Prasai along with a written response.

Hearing the habeas corpus case on Tuesday, a single bench of Supreme Court Justice Kumar Regmi ordered the submission of a written response along with the habeas corpus through the Attorney General's Office within 24 hours. The habeas corpus petition was filed by Suresh Bohara.

'What's wrong with this? Why was the order issued as per the petitioner's demand? If there is any basis and reason for not issuing the order as per the demand, then a written response should be submitted through the Attorney General's Office within 24 (twenty-four) hours from the date of receipt of the time notice, excluding the travel time, along with all the evidence and original files of the investigation, and a copy of the order and the petition should be issued in the name of the defendants and a written response should be submitted as per the rules,' the order said.

Senior advocate Tanka Prasad Dulal, advocates Renukadevi Sitaula, Parasmani Phuyal and Bikash Bhattarai argued on behalf of the petitioner.

Prasai, who is also the coordinator of the 'Rashtra, Nationality, Religion, Culture, Citizens' campaign, was arrested by the police from his residence in Bhaktapur on Sunday on charges of trying to disrupt the election. Prasai has been arrested and released several times before. He has announced that he will boycott the election on Falgun 21.
