International land border crossings in 41 districts of India and China have been sealed for 72 hours from Monday midnight until the voting for the House of Representatives member elections is completed.

With the sealing of the border crossings, movement has been banned except for essential services and inland import-export transportation with prior approval from the Nepal government and local administrations in the case of the field. With the movement ban, the Armed Police Force (APF) deployed for border security has tightened checks and surveillance in the border area. Voting hours for the election have been set for 7 am to 5 pm on 21 Falgun (Thursday).

Targeting the election, the local administrations of the border-bound districts and the Armed Police Force's battalion, battalion and battalion/BOP level units had coordinated with the border security and administration of both countries through their counterparts. After that, the Election Commission had also recommended the government to seal the border crossings last week.

Accordingly, movement through the border without prior approval has been banned until midnight after the voting is over. With this, citizens of both countries from Nepal and India will not be able to travel via land routes until the sealed period. The border crossing has been managed according to Nepal's closed concept with China.

Citizens of both countries require a visa to travel between Nepal and China. In the case of districts that share a border, movement up to a certain distance is also possible with a local permit issued by the local administration. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that such passes have also been closed by the local administration during the election period.

Nepal's border with India is 1,880 km long and with China 1,414 km long. Of these, 27 districts are connected to India and 15 to China. Of these, two districts that are connected to both India and China are Taplejung and Darchula. To secure the border spread towards India, 249 Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the Nepal Armed Forces and 11 units have been deployed towards China. These units have been used to control movement by setting up checkpoints at medium and small customs/checkpoints and checkpoints at Gounda-Gounda, where movement can be carried out.

Due to its geographical location, it is easy to control movement through the border with China. Although there are additional challenges in controlling it due to the open border with India, the Nepal Armed Forces have stated that movement has been controlled by increasing the number of checkpoint units. The Nepal Armed Forces (NAPF) has deployed mechanisms from 249 Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the Nepal Armed Forces (NAPF) on the border spread. The Nepal Armed Forces has deployed about 16,000 personnel in the border area towards India. The Indian Border Security Force (SSB) has deployed more than 45,000 security personnel to secure its border towards Nepal.

Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari in Koshi, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa in Madhesh, Chitwan in Bagmati, Nawalparasi in eastern Gandaki, Nawalparasi in western Lumbini, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya and Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Baitadi and southern parts of Darchula in the far west are connected to India. Similarly, Darchula and Bajhang in the far west, Humla, Mugu, Dolpa in Karnali, Manang, Mustang, Gorkha in Gandaki, Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk and Dolakha in Bagmati, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha and Taplejung in Koshi are the districts connected to China. Eleven BOPs of the armed forces are deployed for border security on the Chinese side.
