The Federation of Nepali Journalists has urged the media and journalists to fully comply with the election code of conduct and the journalist code of conduct during the election silence period.

Issuing an appeal today in the context of the House of Representatives member elections to be held on 21 Falgun, Federation President Nirmala Sharma also urged that arrangements be made for journalists and media vehicles to move freely on the basis of press passes. The Federation has urged all concerned not to obstruct journalists deployed in news conferences in any way.

Recalling the pain of 'self-censorship' in recent times, the statement said, 'It is equally important for journalists and media houses to publish and broadcast news responsibly towards society, in accordance with the commitments of the regulatory body Press Council and the Federation and the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission. It is urged to disseminate true and factual information, not based on misleading information.'

Urging journalists to remain safe and gather at their workplaces, Chairperson Sharma demanded that the beautiful side of democracy, which has been approved by the public vote through party competition, should be allowed to fully and unhinderedly exercise the full freedom of the press and expression provided by the constitution in the context of elections.

Even though serious questions have arisen about how the society is viewing the Nepali media world, the Federation is clear in the statement that the full freedom of the press and expression provided by the constitution should be exercised unhindered.
