A high-level election security committee meeting has been held at the Election Commission to conduct a detailed analysis of the security preparations for the upcoming elections and the incidents of unrest seen in various parts of the country.
The meeting, chaired by the Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission, Ram Prasad Bhandari, was attended by the Home Secretary as well as the heads of all four security agencies. The meeting is preparing to review the overall security situation across the country and make important decisions, including making additional security arrangements in areas considered sensitive.
The Commission has taken the recent incidents of clashes and clashes, especially in places such as Rautahat and Birgunj in Madhesh Province, seriously. It has been analyzed that the dispute between various groups in Rautahat has taken a violent turn and the situation has become tense due to stone pelting and demonstrations in Birgunj as well, adding new challenges to election security. The discussion focused on changing the security strategy, keeping in mind the risk that the tensions in these places could disrupt the election environment. The meeting has prepared to mobilize additional security forces by placing areas with communal and political clashes on a highly sensitive list. It is understood that the security agencies will be instructed to remain on high alert to immediately control disputes at the local level and bring elements disrupting the election under legal jurisdiction.
The meeting also discussed increasing the presence of security forces, especially in border and conflict-affected districts, and keeping a strict watch on misleading information spread through social media.
