The Government of Nepal has provided US$350,000 for the reconstruction of two religious heritage sites damaged by the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar last March.

Nepal's Ambassador to Myanmar, Harishchandra Ghimire, handed over a cheque for US$300,000 to Than U, the General Secretary of the pagoda, at the Mahamuni Pagoda complex in the southwestern part of Mandalay city, Myanmar, according to the Nepalese Embassy in Yangon.

He also handed over a cheque for US$50,000 to Pawan Bajoriya, the temple's chairman, for the reconstruction of the Gangaghat Hindu Temple.

Gangaghat Temple is an important religious site for the Nepali-speaking people living in Myanmar.

The embassy issued a statement reflecting the government of Nepal's commitment to protecting shared religious heritage and supporting the rehabilitation of sites of cultural importance affected by natural disasters.
