The Election Commission has written to the Press Council Nepal asking it to take action against Setopati Online.
On Sunday, the news item 'Sobita Gautam will win the election in Chitwan-3, Renu Dahal is second' was published under the 'Setopati Election Analysis-1' series. On Monday, another news item titled 'Votes will be given to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), but Balen's argument about the settlements near the park is wrong' was published on Setopati itself.
Expressing its serious attention to these news items, the Commission wrote to the Council on Monday to take necessary action as they are against the election code of conduct.
'In the above context, the work done by Setopati Online is in violation of the provisions of Section 4 (p) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS, "No opinion poll shall be conducted regarding the vote results of a candidate or political party from the date of registration of the candidate's nomination until the completion of the voting or the results of such a survey shall be announced or published" and A. "As it is seen to be contrary to the provision of "No news shall be published or broadcast in favor or against anyone" in clause (b) of sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Code of Conduct, it is requested to take necessary action as per the decision," the letter signed by Legal Officer Mohan Raj Joshi said.
