The National Assembly meeting held on 13 Bhadra 2082 had originated the bill and sent it to the Legislative Management Committee for clause-by-clause discussion.
The National Assembly has unanimously passed the decision to withdraw the Social Media Bill from the government. The Social Media Bill 2081, pending in the National Assembly, was withdrawn in today's meeting of the Assembly.
Speaker of the House Narayan Dahal announced the withdrawal of the bill while presenting it for decision. Chairperson of the Legislative Management Committee Tulsa Kumari Dahal had submitted the ‘Report of the Legislative Management Committee on the Social Media Bill, 2081’.
The meeting of the House held on 13 Bhadra 2082 had originated the bill from the National Assembly and sent it to the Legislative Management Committee for clause-wise discussion. 35 MPs had registered 155 amendment proposals in the committee.
Committee Chairperson Dahal also informed that informal discussions had been held on the bill at various stages with the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, the secretary of the ministry and stakeholders.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology decided to withdraw the bill on 20 Magh and directed the government to withdraw the bill through a letter dated 21 Magh.
