Creating a comedy requires as much effort as building a house: Prabhat Lama

In the fourth session of Kantipur Conclave 2026, 'Nepali Politics by Satirizing Yourself', comedian Prabhat Lama said that creating a satire takes as much effort as building a house.

He said that the satire he prepared with a lot of effort will make the audience laugh a lot. In the session, he made the participants laugh by caricaturing former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Keshav Sthapit and former education minister Mahavir Pun. Keshav Sthapit was the mayoral candidate of Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the 2079 local level elections. Former mayor Balendra Shah was also in competition with him. Lama, imitating Sthapit, said, ‘The people of Kathmandu should make me win the election. I will make such a good Aryaghat in Pashupati that I will make the desert desert.’ Comedian Lama said that it is easy to caricature funny people.

Satirizing Pun, he said, ‘People tell me that inventions are made by breaking slippers. Don’t go and ask your father.’ He made the participants laugh by caricaturing Pun. ‘Someone has asked Mahavir.’ A needle made of iron sinks in water. Why doesn't a ship made of iron sink? He replied, "Everyone who sinks is a small one." The session host, comedian Manoj Gajurel, said that Prabhat Lama is preparing to do a comedy on Sudan Gurung, the leader of the Gen-G movement.
