E. coli bacteria found in drinking water of 60.4 percent households: Survey

A total of 98.2 percent of Nepal's population uses improved water sources for drinking water, according to a data released by the National Statistics Office on Monday. According to the Nepal Multi-Indicator Survey 2081/82, E. coli bacteria was found in the drinking water of 60.4 percent of household members when testing the quality of water.

E. coli is the abbreviation of Escherichia coli. According to doctors, coliform and E. coli are bacteria found in feces. Doctors say that drinking water contaminated with E. coli can have serious health effects. E. coli bacteria can cause problems such as diarrhea, jaundice, and other problems. It can also affect the kidneys and liver.

Similarly, according to data released by the National Statistics Office, 92.4 percent of the total family members use improved toilets. Of these, 79.9 percent of family members use improved toilets alone.
