Focusing on the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21, the National Land Network Nepal has made public 10-point suggestions for including concrete land reform programs in the election manifestos of political parties.

According to the network, despite some improvements in the constitution and laws, landlessness, irregular settlements, and unequal distribution of land remain serious problems due to weak implementation. According to the Land Problems Resolution Commission, more than 1.151 million landless households have been registered across the country. Of these, 90,983 are landless Dalits, 171,073 are landless squatters, and 889,345 are irregular settlers. However, only about 8,800 families have received land ownership certificates. The network says that hundreds of families are at risk of displacement due to lack of legal ownership.

The members of the Land Network are Abhiyan Nepal, Amnesty International Nepal, National Campaign for Sustainable Development Nepal, Justice and Rights Organization Nepal, Nepal Women's Unity Society, Cooperation for Land Research and Policy Dialogue Nepal, Community Self-reliant Service Center, Society Welfare Action Nepal, National Indigenous and Disabled Women's Association-Nepal (NIDWAN), National Farmers' Group Federation Nepal, National Dalit Network Nepal, National Land Rights Forum Nepal, and Himwanti Nepal.

The network has also urged the parties to include the suggestions in the manifesto and make a clear commitment to implementation.
