Advertisement Board tells candidates - 'Do not publish or broadcast misleading advertisements'

The Advertisement Board has urged candidates not to publish, broadcast or distribute misleading advertisements during the House of Representatives election campaign.

The board issued a press release today, stating that it has received complaints about acts of directly or indirectly belittling or creating confusion about any party or its candidates, leaders and cadres on social media and other platforms.

The Election Commission and the Advertisement Board have agreed to monitor, regulate, investigate and take action on advertisements during elections, and the board has also informed that it is monitoring and regulating advertisements. 'The Advertisement Board, the regulatory body of the advertising sector, is conducting a detailed study of acts of creating confusion, belittling and misleading audio and audiovisual content among voters,' the statement said.

The board also stated that if any activity is found to be contrary to the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076, the Advertisement (Regulation) Regulations, 2077, the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, and the Code of Conduct for Advertisement Production, Distribution, Publication and Broadcasting, 2079, action will be taken according to the law.
