President Ram Chandra Poudel returned home on Wednesday after completing his official visit to Japan. Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, ministers and heads of security agencies welcomed President Poudel at the VIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport. On the occasion, the Nepali Army offered a salute in his honor.
At the invitation of the Japanese government, President Poudel, along with First Lady Savita Poudel, led a Nepali delegation to Japan on Sunday night to participate in a special ceremony organized in Japan to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.
During his visit to Japan, President Poudel attended a special reception ceremony organized by the Japanese government in Tokyo to mark the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations. He also addressed the ceremony.
Similarly, President Poudel paid a state courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He was also met by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Horii Iwao.
Diplomatic relations were established between Nepal and Japan on 1 September 1956. After the establishment of diplomatic relations, Nepal established its embassy in Tokyo in 1965 and Japan established its embassy in Kathmandu in 1967.
