An employee has been arrested for removing gold from a dustbin inside the Tribhuvan International Airport. The arrested employee, Dik Bahadur Raut, was involved in cleaning work inside the airport.
The employee was arrested by the police around 7:30 am on Tuesday while he was removing gold from a plastic bag filled with garbage in a dustbin.
According to Airport Police SP Rajkumar Silwal, the arrested person is an employee working in airport sanitation through Sagarmatha Services Pvt. Ltd. He was arrested with 4.4 grams of gold.
According to the police, he had been working at the airport for more than 15 years. Questions have been raised about how the employee got the information that the gold was in the dustbin and what was the source of the gold.
The arrested employee has been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation.
