The Ministry of Health and Population has made it clear that it is fully committed to the health security of citizens.

Stating that it is aware of the incidents seen in some countries regarding the public health risk of Nipah virus, the ministry has requested everyone not to panic and to be aware, vigilant and responsible as it is taking all necessary steps for that.

Although the World Health Organization has assessed the public health risk of Nipah virus at the global and Southeast Asian regional levels as low, the ministry has stated that necessary awareness has been adopted considering some incidents of Nipah virus seen in neighboring countries.

It has been clarified that the Ministry's Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has alerted health institutions and agencies across the country as a precautionary measure and that necessary preparations have been made to test for Nipah virus.

The ministry has stated that Nipah virus can be transmitted by consuming fruits contaminated with saliva, urine or feces of infected bats, or through close contact with the blood, saliva, urine or blood of an infected person, and from bats to pigs.

The Ministry of Health and Population has requested everyone to follow public health standards such as eating only fruits after washing them thoroughly, cooking vegetables thoroughly, drinking only clean and safe boiled water, keeping animal sheds and farms clean, using sheets and masks when cutting meat, washing hands with soap and water from time to time, and wearing masks when going to crowded places.

The ministry has mentioned that patients with suspicious symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, dizziness, cough, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness, unconsciousness, etc. should be kept in isolation to identify and report them immediately. The ministry has also requested all concerned to strictly follow the infection prevention and control standards of the disease.

The ministry also urged all concerned to contact the nearest health institution or 1115 immediately if suspicious symptoms are seen, stating that so far there have been no confirmed cases of Nipah virus in Nepal and that the health authorities are fully prepared to mitigate the risk.

The Ministry has requested everyone not to fall prey to rumors and to only trust official information issued by the Ministry, as the Ministry is continuously monitoring the situation in coordination with national and international partner agencies.
