Three candidates running for the upcoming House of Representatives election from Bhaktapur-2 have said they have a common agenda of providing easy access to education, health, agriculture, tourism, and clean drinking water.

UML candidate Mahesh Basnet, Congress' Kabir Rana and Nepali Communist Party's Ram Prasad Sapkota 'Dipshikha' who participated in Kantipur Television's program Sarokar said this  .

32 candidates are in the fray in Bhaktapur-2 . The competing candidates of Congress, UML, CPN, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and NEMKIPA are meeting voters and conducting door-to-door campaigns  . The Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidates did not participate in the 'Sarokar' program despite being invited

UML's Mahesh Basnet said that he has filed his candidacy this time to complete the development of education, health, tourism, infrastructure, etc. that were not completed when he was an MP. 'Everyone sees me as a courageous person with experience and ability to work,' Basnet said, 'I have played an effective role in the past in the parliament, from policy formulation, law formulation to budget formulation   I will play again. This time, the people of Bhaktapur will choose me again because I understand the geography of Bhaktapur and have worked there.'

Basnet, a permanent resident of Suryabinayak Municipality-7, came into the spotlight after being elected as the chairman of Gundu VDC in the 2054 local body elections. Basnet, who became the Minister of Industry from Bhadra 2071 to Asoj 2072, claims to have contributed to the development of Bhaktapur from 2074 to 2079.

Kabir Rana of the Nepali Congress also said that they will formulate laws and regulations by making the needs of the people, development and good governance the main agenda. 'There is still a lot of development work to be done in Bhaktapur,' he said, 'The problem of drinking water and irrigation is serious. My experience and the victory of the Nepali Congress is also necessary to fulfill the plans of our party in the past.'

He was elected as a member of the District Development Committee from the Balkot-Lokanthali area in the first local body elections held in 2048 BS.

Nepali Communist Party (NCP) candidate Ram Prasad Sapkota says that the people of Bhaktapur will make him win this time as he has tested parties including the Congress and the UML in the past. ‘I have come with a plan to promote local products, tourism sector, health, agricultural production and make us self-reliant,’ he said. ‘The voters will make us win this time because I have come with a pro-people agenda.’

Nepali Communist Party candidate Ram Prasad Sapkota is a leader who emerged from youth-student politics and the Maoist movement.

In the past, NCP, Congress and UML had been winning in this area alternately. In the 2048 BS election, Congress’s Jagannath Acharya won here. In 2051 BS, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NMP) Asha Kaji Basukala and again in 2056 BS, Congress’s Lekhnath Neupane won. In 2064 BS, Sunil Prajapati became an MP from NEMKIPA. In 2070 BS, Rameshwor Prasad Dhungel of the Congress and in 2074 BS, Mahesh Basnet of the UML won.
