The Border Out Post (BOP) of the Armed Police Force (APF), deployed for border security, has been covered in two feet of snow. It has been snowing in the area since Tuesday night.

Surma and Saipal in Bajhang, Dasharathchand, Purchaudi, Patan, Surnaya in Baitadi, Mangalsen in Achham, Sanfebagar, Kamalbazar, Panchdeval Vinayak, Ramaroshan, Turmakhand, Dhakari, Chaurpati, Bannigarhi, Mellekh in Achham are also affected by the cold.
People have come down to the lower regions to escape the cold from some high Himalayan areas. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs, more than 16,000 people from high-altitude settlements in Taplejung, Panchthar, Gorkha, Manang, Mustang, Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Darchula and Bajura have been migrating to other places in search of warmth during the cold season. However, even though the settlements are empty, security personnel are staying in barracks.
