The Border Out Post (BOP) of the Armed Police Force (APF), deployed for border security, has been covered in two feet of snow. It has been snowing in the area since Tuesday night.

The Nepali Armed Forces have deployed a BOP under the leadership of an inspector in Lomathang Rural Municipality-1, Nechung, Mustang for the security of Nepalis towards China. An Armed Police Force official informed that the armed forces are not in a position to move out due to the snowfall. There is a movement of people with China through the Korala border crossing in Mustang.

The BOP of the armed forces has been deployed for border security along the same border crossing. Apart from Nechung, the BOPs of Lamabagar in Dolakha, Gumma in Sindhupalchowk, Hilsa in Humla, Phalot in Panchthar, Olangchunggola in Taplejung, Tinkar in Darchula and Chhangru, which are bordering China, are also affected by the snowfall. However, it has been difficult to move out of the Nechung BOP.

More than 1.5 lakh people living in the mountainous regions are affected by the cold. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 162,104 households living in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim may be affected by the extreme cold.  The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that in some villages, people will not be able to leave their homes if there is snowfall.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the upper parts of Sandakpur and Maijogmai rural municipalities of Ilam have been extremely cold since Poush. The upper parts of Faktanglung and Mikwakhola rural municipalities of Taplejung, Falelung and Yangwarak of Panchthar will be very cold until Chaitra.

Bhotkhola in Sankhuwasabha, Khumbupasang in Solukhumbu, Umakunda and Doramba Sailung in Ramechhap, Gosainkunda in Rasuwa, Kalinchowk, Bhimeshwor, Bigu and Gaurishankar in Dolakha are cold until Chait. Namkha Simkot, Kharpunath, Sarkegard, Tajakot, Chankheli, Adanchuli Municipality in Humla are cold until Chait, Mugum Rural Municipality in Mugu, Charkatangsong, Dolpa Buddha, She-Phoksundo are cold until Chait. It is cold in most municipalities of Dailekh, Nalgad, Barekot, Kushe, Junichande and Jumla.

It is cold in various places of Darchula, Amargadhi and Ganyapadhura in Dadeldhura, Gaumul, Himali, Swamikartik Khapar, Jagannath and Triveni in Bajura. Surma and Saipal in Bajhang, Dasharathchand, Purchaudi, Patan, Surnaya in Baitadi, Mangalsen in Achham, Sanfebagar, Kamalbazar, Panchdeval Vinayak, Ramaroshan, Turmakhand, Dhakari, Chaurpati, Bannigarhi, Mellekh in Achham are also affected by the cold.

People have come down to the lower regions to escape the cold from some high Himalayan areas. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs, more than 16,000 people from high-altitude settlements in Taplejung, Panchthar, Gorkha, Manang, Mustang, Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Darchula and Bajura have been migrating to other places in search of warmth during the cold season. However, even though the settlements are empty, security personnel are staying in barracks.
