A corruption case worth Rs 70 million has been filed against Bharat Kumar Acharya, the then engineer of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case against Acharya in a special court on Tuesday on charges of amassing undeserved wealth by misusing public office.

A demand has been made for a fine of Rs 67.891 million and confiscation of assets increased by corruption. The Authority has also made Acharya's wife Lily Subedi a defendant for the purpose of confiscating assets. Acharya, the then senior engineer (authorized eighth level) of Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan, had filed a complaint with the Authority on the charge of amassing illegal assets through acts contrary to his official duties.

During the investigation, Acharya's assets of undisclosed origin were found and a case was filed against him, the charge sheet filed by the Authority in the special court states. After the complaint was filed, the Authority had brought the assets of Acharya after he entered the service under the scope of investigation. The Authority has stated that during the investigation of Acharya's assets from 2048 Magh 6 to 2080 Ashar 6, it was found that the expenditure was more than the income. The charge sheet states that the undisclosed amount of money was earned through corruption.
