The Election Commission has stated that more than 50 percent of the votes have been cast in the elections being held in the capitals of all seven provinces today for members of the National Assembly.
More than 50 percent of the votes have been cast in the election that will begin at 9 am today and end at 3 pm for 17 vacant posts in the National Assembly from Falgun 20.
So far, 313 votes have been cast in Koshi Province, 227 in Madhesh, 217 in Bagmati, 180 in Gandaki, 163 in Lumbini, 145 in Karnali and 186 in Sudurpaschim, informed the Commission's Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC.
Of the 18 vacant posts, one post in Koshi was elected unopposed from the Khas-Arya faction. Voting is currently underway for the remaining 17 posts. Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress, the Khas Arya faction candidate in Koshi, was elected unopposed.
Voting is underway at the Provincial Election Office premises of Koshi Province, Biratnagar, Morang, Mahendra Narayan Nidhi Mithila Cultural Center of Madhesh Province, Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City-4, Dhanusha, Bhutan Devi Secondary School of Bagmati Province, Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-4, Makawanpur.
Similarly, voting is underway at the Provincial Election Office premises of Gandaki Province, Pokhara, Kaski, Lumbini Province's Employee Meeting Center, Ghorahi, Dang, Provincial Election Office premises of Karnali Province, Birendranagar, Surkhet, and Provincial Election Office premises of Sudurpaschim Province, Dhangadhi, Kailali.
An electoral college has been arranged for the election of members of the National Assembly, consisting of provincial assembly members, mayors and deputy mayors, and rural municipality chairmen and vice-chairmen. The Commission has stated that out of a total of 2,056 voters, 2,011 are currently registered for various reasons.
