A complaint has been filed against Harak Sampang, former mayor of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City and chairman of the Labor Culture Party, alleging that children were used in election campaigning.

Dharan Municipal Children's Network filed a complaint with the Office of the Election Officer of Sunsari Constituency No. 1 and the Area Police Office, Dharan on Sunday, demanding an investigation and action on the use of children.

According to the Children's Network, it is considered a serious violation of child rights, saying that children were used and involved in illegal election activities during the targeted campaign for the upcoming House of Representatives election to be held on Falgun 21.

The complaint was jointly registered by Children's Network representative Rojan Shankar and City Children's Network President Manav Bishwakarma. The complaint reminds that according to Sub-section 9(7) of Chapter 2, Section 7 of the Children's Act, 2075, there is a clear legal provision that children cannot be used directly or indirectly for political purposes.

The City Children's Network has made Hark Sampang appear at the Election Officer's Office and demanded that necessary discussions and investigations be held and action be taken as per the election code of conduct and prevailing laws.

Chief Election Officer Divyaraj Ghimire informed that the necessary process will be taken on the complaint. According to him, a committee formed under the coordination of the Chief Election Officer will study the complaint and if necessary, correspondence will be sent to the taluk body. He also said that the Assistant Chief District Officer and the Fund Controller have been designated as monitoring officers in the District Monitoring Committee.

Ghimire said, 'If the monitoring proves that children have been used, a fine of up to one hundred thousand rupees and even the candidacy registration can be cancelled.'
