Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has said that he has withdrawn his candidacy to become a guardian, as everyone wishes, rather than just a member of parliament by participating in the parliamentary elections.
After withdrawing his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Gorkha Constituency No. 2, Bhattarai said on social media Facebook Live that he would stay outside and support the parties.
‘It is important to move forward in the direction of rapid economic prosperity. In such a situation, instead of participating in the parliamentary elections and becoming an MP, it is appropriate to stay outside and support the parties as desired by all my friends, and to become a leader in various forms of the country when necessary.’ He said that he would continue to support political parties and progressive parties in the coming days as well. ‘I pledge to continue to support the progressive parties as desired,’ he said.
He also said that he withdrew his candidacy as he felt it would be appropriate to play a role in advising and suggesting various ways to the future government.
Bhattarai had filed his candidacy for Gorkha 2 from the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa). Along with him, Gorkha-1 candidate Gopal Babu Shrestha from Pralopa has also withdrawn his candidacy.
