A corruption case has been filed against seven people, including the then Chief Land Revenue Officer of the District Land Revenue Office, Banke, Rishi Ram KC, on charges of colluding to transfer land that should have been in the name of the Government of Nepal to an individual.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case in a special court on Thursday against the then Chief Land Revenue Officer of Banke, KC, along with the then Land Revenue Officer Ashok Kumar Bhattarai, the then Nasu of Land Revenue Tara Prasad Khanal, the then Secretary of the then Betahani VDC of Banke, Man Bahadur Bogati, the then Nasu Karna Bahadur Pun, a local of Duduvaki in Banke, Lilawati Kairati, and Birendra Kumar Kurmi in the land embezzlement case.

The then Chief Land Revenue Officer KC, Nasu Tara Prasad Khanal, and the then VDC Secretary Bogati have been sentenced to imprisonment and fines of Rs 2,242,720 each. The CIAA spokesperson Suresh Neupane informed that the imprisonment and fines have been imposed on Land Revenue Officer Bhattarai and Nasu Pun, Rs 2,087,259 each against Kairati, Rs 2,467,720 each against Kurmi, and Rs 1,862,259 each against Kurmi.

In the case of land belonging to various plots in the former Betahani VDC-4 of Banke, including the plaintiff Lilawati Kairati and the defendant Sahajram Kurmi, a decision was made in 2067 BS with the establishment of the right of inheritance. However, it was decided that half of the property in the name of the deceased Surata Kurmi, as claimed by the plaintiff, would not be established in the name of the plaintiffs. The then Appellate Court, Nepalgunj, also upheld the district's decision, and the Supreme Court had also ruled that the case should not be re-examined. However, since the land that came under the name of Surata was not the next of kin, it was established in the name of someone else with the connivance of the Land Revenue officials.

With the connivance of the Land Revenue officials, Lilawati Kairati applied to the Land Revenue to have it established in her name. The Authority has filed a case against all seven people involved on Thursday after an investigation revealed that the Land Revenue Department illegally prepared fake ownership details and grabbed land valued at Rs 2,242,720 in government auctions.
