Kailali's Tikapur Municipality is without a mayor and deputy mayor. Mayor Ramlal Dagaura Tharu has resigned from his post to register his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Kailali Constituency No. 1, while deputy mayor Khadak Bahadur Shah has been suspended since 25th Magh 2080 on charges of involvement in land irregularities at the Tikapur Municipal Development Committee.
Dagaura Tharu, who was elected mayor of the city from the Civil Liberation Party in the 2079 local elections, has become a candidate on behalf of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP).
Although there is a provision to resign before the deputy mayor, since there is no deputy mayor, Dagaura Tharu resigned from the post while addressing the municipal assembly members. The mayor, who is left without a deputy mayor, has also resigned, leaving him without leadership.
Deviram Acharya, the municipality's information officer, said that in the absence of a mayor, house plan appeals, local health boards, executive meetings, and municipal assembly meetings will be affected.
