Police have said that a fire that broke out at a sheep farm in Palata, Kalikot, caused damage worth Rs. 1.141 million.
On Thursday night, 49-year-old Krishnalal Rokaya of Palata 3 died in a fire at a sheep shed in Rejulekh, Palata 4. Similarly, 10 sheep that were injured in the fire also died the next day. Rokaya, a sheep farmer, was also injured while trying to put out the fire in the shed. He is undergoing treatment.
DSP Him Bahadur Khatri, who came from the Muchulka field, said that the loss of sheep and other property worth 1.141 million 300 was reported. The note also mentions that other goods including sheep were burnt. He said, "It is a big loss for farmers who earn their living by raising sheep."
Surya Rokaya, the eldest son of the injured, who has been raising sheep on loan for the past 7 years, said. ‘The progress of the poor has not been achieved,’ he said, ‘All the sheep were burnt before the loan was paid off, how will we make a living?’
He said that if the villagers were given the meat of the sheep that died in the fire, they would be able to recover about 2 lakhs. ‘That should be it,’ he said, ‘whether they will give it or not, I don’t know. They have all borrowed money.’
Village council chairman Bishnu Rokaya said that Krishnala has been raising sheep commercially for a long time. He pledged to provide all possible support on behalf of the village council.
