Four ministers of the interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, which was formed with the primary responsibility of holding elections, have joined the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

They have resigned from their ministerial posts and become candidates for the upcoming election to be held on Falgun 21.

Interim government Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising, Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun have become candidates for the election.

Earlier, they had announced their resignation from their posts before entering the arena of party politics.

Energy Minister Ghising is currently the chairman of Ujjaya Nepal Party. He was previously the executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority. Ujjaya Party spokesperson Dr. Raju Thapa informed that Ghising is a candidate from Kathmandu-3.

Youth and Sports Minister Gupta is a leader of the Genji Movement and a social activist. Gupta said that he is going to file his candidacy from Siraha Constituency No. 1 on behalf of the National Independent Party.

Former Communications Minister Kharel has been active in the field of journalism for more than two decades. Before becoming a minister, he was the editorial leader of Image Television. Kharel was presented with the party affiliation symbol by Rastriya Swatantra Party Vice President DP Aryal on Tuesday. The party has stated that he is scheduled to reach the election office of Lalitpur Constituency No. 2 at 3 pm to register his candidacy.

Similarly, former Education Minister and founder and scientist of the National Innovation Center Pun has already filed his candidacy from Myagdi Constituency No. 1 today.

The process of registering candidates for the first-ever direct election system for the election of members of the House of Representatives is underway in all 165 constituencies across the country today.
