Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal's only international airport, has seen a significant increase in both international and domestic air traffic in 2025.

According to the data released by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, more than 9.77 million passengers have used this airport in Kathmandu throughout the year.

According to the authority, 5.251 million passengers have traveled through the airport on international flights and 4.525 million passengers have traveled through domestic flights in 2025. Adding both, the total number of passengers has reached 9.777 million.

A total of 138,145 flights have been operated from Kathmandu Airport in 2025. Of these, 34,594 are international flights and 135,551 are domestic flights. The authority has stated that the number of arrivals and departures is almost equal.

The passenger traffic towards international flights has been significant in 2025. According to the data, November was the busiest month, where more than half a million passengers have traveled through international flights.

During this period, about 279,572 tons of cargo have been transported through international flights and more than 463 tons of mail have been transported.

There has also been a significant increase in domestic air services. In 2025, more than 4.5 million passengers have traveled through more than 103,000 domestic flights operated from the airport.

Civil Aviation Authority Deputy Manager and Joint Spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul interpreted the growth in both passenger and flight sectors as a positive sign. ‘The increase in passenger numbers and flight activities in both international and domestic sectors is evidence of increasing public confidence in Nepal’s air transport system. Despite limited infrastructure, Tribhuvan International Airport is managing the increasing pressure,’ Bhul told Kantipur.
