'Rs 4 lakh relief' for those affected by Solan fire.
What you should know
The employment destination of most of the residents of the Central and Far West is the neighboring country of India. They spend most of their energetic time in India working as laborers, and if they somehow lose their lives abroad, they do not even get relief. Even though the victim families have been wandering for relief and compensation, the achievement has been zero. Which makes them suffer even more.
In the third week of last Shrawan, the local market in Dharali, Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, was devastated by heavy rains. 21 Nepali workers went missing when the floods in Dharali swept them away. The relatives of the missing searched for a week or ten days. They returned home after not being found. Before returning home, the relatives of the missing applied for search and relief from the local police and the Uttarkashi District Officer's office. So far, they have not received any relief.
'What kind of relief is there? We have not even received the wages for our work. Who will pay us since the moneylender has disappeared?' Prakash Budha of Tikapur, Kailali, said, 'After that, I did not feel like going to Dharali, we have come to Garhwal and are working.' Prakash's brother Ramesh and daughter-in-law Priya had gone missing in Dharali. He said that after they were not found, he reached Haridwar and returned home after doing some shopping. After that, they did not return to Dharali. Now, they have reached Garhwal in Uttarakhand for work.
‘We came with my brother’s son to the police station and the district officer’s office and filed a complaint,’ said Ganesh Bahadur Singh of Kushe-2, Taligaun, Jajarkot. ‘They said they would inform us later, but there is no information yet.’ His brother Karna Bahadur had reached Dharali for his mother’s treatment and employment. Ganesh is still working in Dharali. According to him, the families of those who went missing in the Dharali floods did not get any relief from anywhere. He said that since the money they had earned due to the floods was also buried, they had to go home and do their daily chores.
A large number of Nepali workers are losing their lives in floods and landslides and road accidents in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, India. The number of people who go missing is increasing every year. But they do not get relief and compensation. Four people from Salyan died in a jeep accident in Kotkhai, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh in the last week of last Bhadra. Their families, who had gone to pick apples, have not yet received any relief or compensation. Nine Nepali workers died in a fire in Arki, Solan district, Himachal Pradesh on Monday night.
The search and rescue of their bodies is underway. The search for the bodies of those who died in the fire is currently underway, said Solan district Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma. According to him, the bodies may have been burned due to the intense fire. ‘Bone fragments have started to be found, it is difficult to identify which one belongs to whom,’ he said, ‘We are continuing the search.’
According to Deputy Commissioner Sharma, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with the police and local administration, are engaged in the search and rescue. It is estimated that the fire may have started after a fire started in an old wooden house. He said that relief will be provided to the Nepalis affected by the fire.
‘If the relatives of the missing family come and apply, relief can be provided,’ Sharma said, ‘Siblings can come and apply.’ He said that 400,000 Indian rupees will be provided to the relatives of the missing. The Nepali Embassy in Delhi is also unaware of the relief that the families of those who have disappeared or died in various incidents in India will receive. According to the embassy’s counselor Prakash Malla, there is no information about whether or not they received relief in some cases. Therefore, it is not possible to say who received relief or not.
The National Labor Migration Policy 2082 has made arrangements for Nepali workers in India to be affiliated with the welfare fund. Due to the failure to implement the policy issued last July, workers and their relatives facing various problems in India have not been able to receive any relief or compensation.
