Buddha Air flight number 852 (aircraft NINE-AMD), which was preparing to fly from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu, has been delayed due to passenger negligence.
According to Buddha Air Information Officer Dipendra Karna, the flight was affected after passenger Suman Gautam opened the plane's emergency door without authorization.
The passenger involved in the incident was immediately taken into custody by airport security personnel.
Buddha Air has stated that a technical team has already left Kathmandu for Bhairahawa as detailed technical inspection of the plane is required as per air safety standards.
The plane will fly to Kathmandu only after all the inspection is completed and safety is ensured.
According to the rules of the Civil Aviation Authority, opening the emergency door of an aircraft without reason is considered a serious legal offense. The company has apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to this incident.
A year ago, a passenger opened the plane's emergency door without authorization during the preparation of flight number 618 from Pokhara to Kathmandu. After that, after the inspection by the technical team, the plane took off for Kathmandu about three hours late.
Similarly, on October 10 at 6:05 am, the plane on the Kathmandu-Janakpur flight was diverted to Biratnagar due to bad weather in Janakpur. After the weather improved, while preparing to fly from Biratnagar to Janakpur, a passenger opened the plane's emergency door while entering the runway from the taxiway. After the incident, the crew returned the plane to the parking way. After a technical team from Kathmandu conducted a complete inspection, the plane landed in Janakpur at 1 pm.
The passengers paid one lakh rupees as compensation on the condition of 'not doing such a thing in the future'.
Buddha Air has been providing the compensation amount collected in this way to charitable organizations of the respective destinations as support. Accordingly, one lakh rupees each have been handed over to the Mahaganga Aarti-Gangasagar in Janakpurdham and the old age home in Pokhara.
The flight attendants of the airline have been providing detailed information to the passengers about the use of the emergency door before the flight. They have been warning that the door should not be opened except in an emergency and that this will seriously disrupt flight safety.
According to the ‘Civil Aviation Act, 2015’, there is a legal provision that anyone who disrupts air flights can be punished with imprisonment for one to three years or even life imprisonment in serious cases, depending on the nature of the crime. Buddha Air has stated that it will take necessary legal action against such passengers and will also ban them from future flights.
