Lumbini Provincial Assembly member and former minister Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary has resigned from his post and announced that he will be a candidate in the federal parliamentary elections. Elected from the Civil Liberation Party, he has joined Kulman Ghising's Ujjaya Nepal Party.

He was elected from Bardiya-2 (2) from the Civil Liberation Party and became the Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly. Chaudhary joined the Ujjal Nepal Party on Saturday. Immediately after that, he announced that he would be a candidate from Bardiya-2 and resigned from the Provincial Assembly member.

‘I have already resigned from the Civil Liberation Party, I am also resigning from the post of member of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly by Magh 6,’ he said, ‘My political journey from now on will be from the Ujjal Nepal Party.’

Dharma Bahadur Chaudhary was on Ranjita’s side in the dispute between the Civil Liberation Party chairperson Ranjita Shrestha and the patron Resham Chaudhary. Three of the four provincial assembly members of Naupa in Lumbini Province are on Shrestha’s side.

Naupa Chief Whip Narmaya Dhakal said that Chaudhary has not resigned from both the party and the provincial assembly member posts and has not informed the party. Therefore, the authority has not been finalized.

‘He is still in the Civil Liberation Party,’ she said, ‘other processes will start only after receiving formal information about joining another party.’

Meanwhile, Lumbini Provincial Assembly Secretary Durlabh Kumar Pun said that a provincial assembly member must resign from the provincial assembly before becoming a candidate in the House of Representatives election.

‘You cannot become a candidate for the upper house while still a provincial assembly member,’ he said, ‘there is a legal provision that requires resignation. If you register your candidacy without resigning, the Election Commission can reject your candidacy.’
