The Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN (Maoist), which is set to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections, has recommended 'jail breaker' Uma Bhujel as its candidate in Gorkha. The name of Bhujel, a standing committee member and Gandaki Province in-charge, was recommended to the center by the secretariat meeting of the Maoist District Committee held on Sunday.

From Gorkha 2, the Maoists have also recommended the names of Bhujel, central member Kazi Gurung and labor leader Tek Pradhan.

Bhujel and other female fighters who were arrested during the ten-year conflict escaped from Gorkha Jail on Chaitra 17, 2057 by digging a tunnel. Bhujel, who hails from Kafaldanda, Ajirkot, has been in the news since her jail break.

Similarly, in Gorkha 1, the names of District Engineer Kapil Bhatta, Ajib Poudel and Bishnu Rijal have been recommended as direct candidates.
