The District Administration Office, Makawanpur, has issued a notice directing not to operate businesses in houses and structures that were demolished and are in a risky condition during the road expansion under Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City. In accordance with the decision of the District Disaster Management Committee meeting, the notice issued by Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Raj Joshi states, 'It is requested not to operate any type of business or business within the demolished and risky structures.'
If anyone operates a business ignoring the warning and any kind of disaster or accident occurs as a result, the homeowner and the concerned businessperson themselves will be fully responsible, the administration's notice states. In addition, all concerned have been urged to give high priority to the safety of workers during the structure management.
Businesses are operating in a risky manner in the houses demolished by the Road Division Office, Hetauda for the road expansion.
On November 20, the Road Division Office demolished houses on both sides of the main road from Ratmate in Hetauda to Buddha Chowk and Rapti Khola Bridge along the East-West Highway for road expansion.
After the road expansion work was stopped due to the Supreme Court order, some businessmen are currently doing risky business in their homes while managing the demolished structures. Local Kailash Thapa said that due to this, there could be a huge loss of life at any time. 'Businessmen are running shops from houses that were demolished by the Road Division Office and left in ruins,' he said, 'due to which the houses could collapse at any time, causing a huge loss of life and property.' He said that the operation of shops in the demolished houses should be immediately banned.
Local businessman Roshan Shrestha, expressing his confusion after the houses were left in ruins for the road expansion, said that he was only selling the goods in 'stock' for the time being as he had no other option.
'We have not ordered new goods from outside,' he said, 'We have to sell the goods in stock, we did not throw them away.' That is why I am selling the 'stock' goods even though it is risky.'
Yadav Subedi, Information Officer of the Road Division Office, Hetauda, said that the road expansion work could not be carried out as the case related to the road expansion is pending in the Supreme Court. He said that despite urging the traders not to set up shops in the collapsed houses, some traders are operating their businesses in a risky manner.
