With the government's approval of the Nepal Citizenship (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2082 by the Council of Ministers and its publication in the Gazette, the provision of the Citizenship Act, 2063, which grants citizenship in the mother's name to those whose father's identity is unknown, will be implemented.
The Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Act, 2082, which was enacted to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 to facilitate the provision for children born to Nepali citizen mothers to obtain citizenship in the mother's name, was ratified by the President on Asoj 5. The Citizenship Regulations, 2063, have been amended for the fourth time to implement the provisions made in the said amendment act.
The document, which was approved by the Council of Ministers on Poush 11, has been published in the Nepal Gazette on Poush 21 and a circular has been issued to all 77 District Administration Offices to implement it.
