599 police officers face action for posting inappropriate content on social media

599 police officers have been taken into action for posting inappropriate content on social media. Action has been taken against police personnel who posted non-commercial and unethical content in violation of the Nepal Police's social media usage policy.

According to the Police Headquarters, departmental action has been taken against Deputy Inspector General of Police and Police Office Assistants for making inappropriate comments against the organization on various social media platforms including Facebook, X, TikTok and others since the fiscal year 2077/078 and for misusing police uniforms. 

Those who have been taken into action include 1 Deputy Inspector General of Police, 1 Senior Superintendent of Police,  4 Superintendents of Police, 5 Deputy Superintendents of Police,  24 Police Inspectors, 11 Senior Deputy Inspectors of Police,  24 Deputy Inspectors of Police, 51 Assistant Inspectors of Police, 7 Senior Constables of Police, 35 Constables of Police, 76 Assistant Constables, 358 Police Constables and 2 Police Office Assistants. They have been given strict warnings, admonitions and even suspension of promotions for acting against the organization's policies. 

Nepal Police has issued a circular dated 2071/09/11 to make the use of social media systematic and dignified and has implemented guidelines on the systematic use of social media.

In addition, the Nepal Police Code of Conduct Order-2077 and the circulars issued by the Police Headquarters on various dates prohibit police personnel from uploading videos/photos of police activities, including weapons, uniforms, vehicles, and so on, and from commenting on them in a way that demonstrates unprofessional and unethical behavior on social media.
