All-party decision to form a permanent harmony mechanism in Birgunj

What you should know

To maintain social harmony in Birgunj, an all-party decision has been made not to hold demonstrations, protests, and gatherings without the permission of the local administration.

To defuse the tension caused by the ongoing protests and maintain harmony, an all-party meeting held at the District Administration Office, Parsa on Tuesday urged all stakeholders not to hold demonstrations, protests and gatherings without the permission of the local administration.

The meeting, led by Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal, decided that permission must be obtained from the district administration if any kind of demonstration or protest is to be held in Birgunj in the future. It has been decided that the concerned party will have to submit a memorandum to the Chief District Officer before taking permission and only then will the program be allowed to be conducted.

The meeting also decided to form a permanent harmony mechanism to control activities that disrupt social or harmony and to recommend necessary legal action. The mechanism will include locals Ranjit Sah, Ranjan Singh, Mohammad Mahbub Ali (Sheru) and Ali Asgar Madani.

It has been decided that one representative from each political party in the district, the president of the Federation of Journalists Parsa and a representative of civil society will be members, and in addition, representatives as needed.

The meeting has urged all types of media and social media users to play a responsible role in a way that does not affect social harmony. It has also been requested not to publish and broadcast provocative, misleading or hateful content. It has also been decided that the local administration will be active in bringing groups or movements that disrupt religious, cultural and social harmony under the legal ambit.

All parties have expressed their commitment to review their weaknesses and motivate the people of their community to maintain discipline, self-restraint and harmony.

The organizations, parties and activists participating in the meeting have also agreed to make these decisions public through their websites and Facebook pages and issue a press release if necessary. It has also been concluded that everyone will play an active and positive role from their respective places to ease the current situation and not hold any further protest programs.
